While I think that ideas of free software are right, I think there is a mistake in a way how they are promoted.
The problem is that free software guys are very strict about what they use. This isn't a problem when we talk about personal use, but when it comes to promotion of free software it becomes a big problem.
People that should be targeted by such promotions shouldn't be those that use free software already because they probably know about it.
Instead, promotions should target people that don't know about free software. Since they don't know about free software they use software that doesn't respect software freedom such as facebook, twitter and youtube.
Just as missionaries were sent outside to spread their religion, the free software guys should make a sacrifice and use those services to tell other people that those services are bad, why they are bad and show that there is an alternative.

i agree, but i hope that…
i agree, but i hope that wouldn't make free software people look like Jehovah's witnesses (i don't know if that's a thing in other countries but in Italy they do a lot of flyering even house-to-house, which makes them annoying to many people), for sure fsf's mission makes more sense, but maybe it's just my opinion / point of view... and for sure right now fsf have very small "traction" and for this reason i think they should at least try the way you suggest.
